Google Cloud Platform(GCP) : Access Windows Server using GUI running in GCP instance using Remote Desktop Connection.
Having servers on the cloud is great: you can access them from 24*7 from anywhere.You can quickly ssh through your account and do anything you want, can you?
This is a tutorial of how to setup GUI windows desktop environment on the VM instance of Google cloud platform. In just few steps of installation You can setup a windows Desktop . Follow the instructions here as below.
Important: if you created and started an instance then your every minutes will be charged. Go below at the end of this post to see how to stop it and get $300 credits.
Step 1 : log in to Google Cloud Platform
Go to this link to login : https://cloud.google.com
Step 2 : Create Project
Create a new project or open a project in which you have to create a instance. Add a billing account to that project.
Step 3 : Create a Virtual Machine
In the GCP infrastructure > Go to Compute Engine > VM instances
Now, Click Create to Create instance
Now , Here give Your instance name as well as select the region. Also Select the Machine type as it describes the memory and the type of CPU.Choose a zone close to you to have the best latency in your connection.
Now, In Boot disk section ,Change to begin configuring your boot disk.
Now,After Clicking Change Select Operating system as “Windows Server”.And then in Version Select “Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter”.Have all other settings at their defaults.
Step 4 : Connect to the Instance
Connect to the Created Instance.Click created virtual machine instance.
Now select the Drop Down from RDP select the Set Windows password.
Now Open Remote Desktop Connection in your Computer/Laptop.
Now Enter the External ip in Remote Desktop Connection and then enter the credentials.
Step : 5 Output
Now, You will see a new Window of a Virtual machine.
Costs
An instance running on the cloud has a cost but you can simply stop it and restart whenever you need it again. once the Work is over just delete the instance.
